Highlights

  • Carnaval means something religious, this energy is required of you in the lead up to Easter
  • Dress up like a queen or king, do a body paint, and a mask, because nobody needs to know your identity at this party
  • Enjoy the local carnival parade which makes its way down the Rua del Extermini in decorated carriages

Description

Well, at least the party of this time of year. Carnaval means something religious, like the last chance you get to really indulge before the 40 days and nights of abstinence that are required of you in the lead up to Easter. (But we'll let you in on a big secret here - this is just an excuse to get freaky deaky buck wild)...

So the deal is that you all have to dress up to the nines, like go all out in sequins and boas and body paint, and a mask, because nobody needs to know your identity at this party.

Why Tuesday? The busiest day is Fat Tuesday, when the local carnival parade makes its way down the Rua del Extermini in decorated carriages, sporting the campest razzle-dazzle type outfits you have ever seen. The parades are themed, Rua de la Disbauxa - the Debauchery Parade, on Sunday night and the Rua de l‘Extermini - the Extermination Parade, on Tuesday night.

Tuesday, the final day of carnival, also sees some amazing drag shows. Think you have seen it all... you haven't! Some of Europe's top drag performers make their way to Sitges to bitch-battle it out with each other to the great amusements of the revelers
